Any California worker who is unable to return to work for a long time after an on-the-job injury will likely be concerned about the financial consequences because, along with regular bills, there will now also be medical bills with which to cope. A delivery man miraculously survived an incident that caused him major workplace injuries. Reportedly, the incident occurred in Santa Rosa on a recent Thursday.
According to the battalion chief of the fire department, calls for help came in from a ceramic tile business shortly after 1 p.m. Firefighters rushed to the scene to find a delivery man trapped under approximately 8,000 pounds of granite slabs. While unloading the slabs from the truck, six of them somehow slipped off and landed on top of the worker.
Fortunately, the firefighters managed to extricate the man from under the massive load within 10 minutes. They used a ladder truck, hydraulic equipment and airbags to lift the 6-foot by 10-foot granite slabs off the trapped worker. Although he suffered critical injuries, they managed to save his life and get him to a hospital within a short period of time.
However, after such major workplace injuries, the delivery man will likely be off work for a considerable period. An experienced workers' compensation attorney can help him pursue insurance benefits on his behalf. A California lawyer can navigate the legal and administrative procedures required for maximizing medical benefits and wage replacement to relieve the injured worker of the financial burden brought about by the workplace accident.
