Overconfidence and shortcuts can cause workplace accidents

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health prescribes safety regulations to deal with just about any work-related hazard an employee in any industry might encounter. However, many dangers are brought about by human nature rather than safety violations. Employees may not even realize how they could be their own worst enemies and put their own lives in danger. Workplace accidents can happen despite compliance with specific safety regulations.

One of the most dangerous attitudes workers can have is overconfidence. Employees who believe they can do anything and are incapable of failing or making mistakes have been known to cause workplace accidents that injured themselves and their co-workers. Such personalities pose significant challenges to supervisors and employers.

Taking shortcuts can also pose safety risks, even if there is no Cal/OSHA regulation to prohibit it as such. In many cases, it is the workers with many years of experience in doing a particular job who tend to take shortcuts. However, those overconfident workers may also make themselves guilty of this dangerous practice. Shortcuts are typically taken to get jobs done quicker. This invariably includes rushing, which exacerbates the risk of injuries.

Workers who tend to be overconfident or take shortcuts may want to prepare themselves for spending time in a hospital. Although nobody wants to deal with mountains of medical bills and lost wages, workplace accidents can happen at any time. Fortunately, the California workers' compensation program is a no-fault system that provides benefits to cover those financial losses regardless of who was at fault. Some injured workers choose to seek the assistance of an experienced workers' compensation attorney to navigate the claims for them.
